Numerous federal and local law enforcement agencies have bypassed subpoenas and warrants designed to protect civil liberties and gathered Americans' personal telephone records from private-sector data brokers.

These brokers, many of whom advertise aggressively on the Internet, have gotten into customer accounts online, tricked phone companies into revealing information and even acknowledged that their practices violate laws, according to documents gathered by congressional investigators and provided to The Associated Press.

The law enforcement agencies include offices in the Homeland Security Department and Justice Department — including the FBI and U.S. Marshal's Service — and municipal police departments in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia and Utah. Experts believe hundreds of other departments frequently use such services.

Everyone is talking about it...democracy is ending. No one seems to care enough to create the dissention it's going to take to get back the freedoms we've lost over this government's response to "terrorists". In that vein, are the Democrats asleep in congress? It's obvious there is some kind of concerted effort here to change the constitution. Bush is redefining his job description without regard for it.

When ANY city ends putting out news like New Orleans did in this mornings' newspaper-all American cities should take note. When anyone is held against their will and denied representative council it happens to each one of us. Corporations cooperating with and giving the government whatever they want and sneaking them privileged information about individuals is a giant red flag.

Thousands of our country's young men have sacrificed their lives in several wars so that we could keep the rights that are being taken away from us by this present administration...and that would be an abomination if we let it happen.

It is documented, and admitted by members of the justice dept. that our civil liberties have been completely ignored! The Bush Admin. is, probably, the worst cabinet in American history, if not the most criminal. After realizing that 9/11 was an inside job, which alone is reason enough, It became obvious that the War on Terror, The USA Partiot Act, etc. is all just more BS to continue to further personal agendas that have nothing to do with the well being of the American Citizen. Believe me, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I never have been, it's a waste of time. However, after realizing the things I have about 9/11, and all of the inconsistancies and impossibilities regarding the crap that the 9/11 commission tried to feed us, it all became obvious. After all, some of the 9/11 commissioners themselves have seats on the board in Boeing, American Airlines, and United Airlines. It's all the biggest scam in American history!
I truly believe that the Patriot Act, the wiretapping scandle, etc., was all designed in an attempt to scare people into being quiet. No one wants to question the legality of this administration for fear of being put in jail, or worse! So far it seems to be working pretty well. Just remember though... nothing lasts forever! They will eventually be caught.

Totally aggree with a answer a couple up that said america started going down hill long before Bush. The US government hasn't destroyed our freedom. If you were in another attack like 9/11, you wouldn't have all that much freedom once you were dead. I've read some answers on others that say that soldier's freedoms are being destroyed. They signed up for the military and the wanted to support our country and president.

Who's Mr. Bush? Do you mean President Bush? There is no way you have the Military Training that you claim and are so disrespectful. If you don't feel free here, leave. You don't sound informed, you sound PARANOID.

For starters, the correct title is President Bush. Lack of respect for our country's top leader by media promoting their own agenda has hurt our country to its core. In addition, the citizen's of our country are responsible for destroying their own freedom due to apathy.

You must first realize you are speaking of the antichrists and America was forewarned of the tyranny and despotism that these men wrought by our greatest and earliest leaders.

"``The per capita income gap between the developed and the developing countries is increasing, in large part the result of higher birth rates in the poorer countries.... Famine in India, unwanted babies in the United States, poverty that seemed to form an unbreakable chain for millions of people--how should we tackle these problems?.... It is quite clear that one of the major challenges of the 1970s ... will be to curb the world's fertility." -- George H. W. Bush"

"The real rulers in Washington are invisible, and exercise power from behind the scenes." -- Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter, 1952

"The high office of President has been used to foment a plot to destroy the Americans freedom, and before I leave office I must inform the citizen of his plight." -- John Fitzgerald Kennedy speaking at Columbia University, 10 days before his assassination

"The few who understand the system, will either be so interested in its profits, or so dependent on its favors that there will be no opposition from that class, while on the other hand, the great body of people, mentally incapable of comprehending the tremendous advantages...will bear its burden without complaint, and perhaps without suspecting that the system is inimical to their best interests.? ? Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of a day; but a series of oppressions ... too plainly prove a deliberate, systematical plan of reducing us to slavery.
