Good question. What's the worst that could happen? With the high rate a divorce in the world today and all of the single parents having to raise children, you would think that the government would want to encourage happy stable loving homes, regardless of sexual preference.

Some people still have a backwards view of those who are not like themselves, and gays are a minority. Others I've heard are worried about gays getting married primarily to recieve a tax break (as if most people get married for financial reasons...I'm sure some do or take that into account but it's hardly worth worrying that the majority would use that as a primary reason). Small minded people...that's about the only reason I can think of. Any two consenting adults should be allowed to marry if they so choose.

I am not afraid of marriage between anyone. What I am ticked off about is that a terrific word like "gay" has become a symbol for homosexuality. If they are not ashamed of being homosexual why not admit it, instead of saying "I'm gay."

I don't think we're afraid of gay marriage, so much as we are afraid of having our children taught that it is "normal". Obviously, it is not normal, since it goes against nature. Nature is geared toward survival of the species through reproduction. Homosexuality is a perversion of the natural sex drive, and as such, ought not to be accepted as "normal".

Rumor has it that if we let gay people marry, it wil corrupt the very fabric of our existence and encourage the children to lose their morality.....these are comments made by people who clearly don't own a TV or watch cable television.

Most people are intelligent and "live and let live". And most people just want to love/be loved, live in peace, and have lives like everyone else - nothing special. Thank you from this gay person.

I don't think people are afraid of gay marriage, they just don't agree with it. Everyone is entitled to his own opinion.

I don't think people are "afraid" of gay marriage. It just goes against their beliefs.

I'm not afraid of gay marriage. I really don't know anyone who is.

I don't think people are really afraid of it. They just don't understand it. Some people are just so closed off from anything that is not their cup of tea.
