Mr. Cobain suffered from mental illness that led him to believe he could successfully end his suffering by taking his own life. What he was incorrect about was that his suffering was only beginning the moment he picked up a shotgun and killed himself. More specifically, we as human beings fail to realize that our lives belong to others, not ourselves. Mr. Cobain had a loving wife and though we assail them for their drug use, Mr. Cobain left us with a lasting body of work that reminds us how precious and significant our lives are.
Alas, Mr. Cobain did not kill only himself, he killed his wife and family, his friends and all of us who remember him with respect and dignity, just the way it should be.
