It's an interesting experiment. I like the retro style, but it wasn't carried out in full. The front looks okay, but the rear view isn't too inspired.
It looks too much like a PT cruiser for my tastes. Compared to the new Dodge mini SUV, I don't think the HHR will sell very well.
I'd like it a lot more if they'd have made it rear-wheel drive.
SoCal Speed Shop chopped the roof on theirs, and it looks really good. The HHR has potential to be cool, but it has to be modified to really look decent.

My husband and I are vintage car lovers especially the 30, 40 and 50's style. I love the HHR. We do a lot of frame-off restoration on the early cars to make them daily driver's. But they can't beat the HHR for safety for long trips. Wouldn't trade her for the world.

I appreciate their efforts at bringing back the past, but it's a horrible attempt. If GM can build a GTO that looks like an import, put the Impala badge on their current disaster and have plans to introduce the 2007 or 2008 Corvette as a 4 cylinder sports car (cylinder deactivation) at highway cruising speeds; then they are capable of re-introducing the Chevette to compete with the Cooper. Their concept Camaro isn't bad looking, but I wonder what they will do to screw that up too, as they have already discontinued it once!

i do not like it. the first time i saw it i thought it looked like a cross breed mutt mix up between a jeep and a pt cruiser. i drive a truck and an impala and to tell you the truth i think my impala is bigger than the hhr...not sure tho...
