The origins of what would become today's television system are traced back as far as the discovery of the photoconductivity of the element selenium by Willoughby Smith in 1873, and the invention of a scanning disk by Paul Nipkow in 1884. All practical television systems use the fundamental idea of scanning an image to produce a time series signal representation. That representation is then transmitted to a device to reverse the scanning process. The final device, the television, relies on the human eye to integrate the result into a coherent image again.

While electromechanical techniques were developed prior to World War II, most notably by Charles Francis Jenkins and John Logie Baird, all-electronic television systems relied on the inventions of Philo Taylor Farnsworth, Vladimir Zworykin and others to produce a system suitable for mass distribution of television programming. Commercial broadcast programming, following years of experimental broadcasts seen only in a few specially-equipped homes, occurred in both the United States and the United Kingdom before World War II.

Television. 1884 - Paul Nipkow a German inventor develops and patents the world's first electromechanical television system
In 1927, Baird demonstrated colour television and a video-recording system he called a "Phonovision". In 1928, Baird made the first transatlantic television transmission and one year later he started regular 30-line mechanical broadcasts.
Mr. Sziklai held 160 patents in electronics, many of which were key to the invention of the television,

I'm not sure who invented the first television that people are familar with today. But, Edison invented the the first Cathode Ray Tube, which is a major part of the first generation of televisions. As you know, CRT's slowly being replaced by plasma and LCD televisions.

Television was invented by a single person. He developed the concept when he was 14 years old and filed for a patent when he was 20 years old. His name was Philo Farnsworth. You might wonder why his name is not a household word like Thomas Edison or Alexander Graham Bell. It is because RCA did everything it could to block Farnsworth and tied Farnsworth up in courts for 75 years.

A lot of people developed different parts and were doing similar things around the same time but credit for inventing the television is often given to Philo Farnsworth.

Television was not invented by a single inventor, instead many people working together and alone, contributed to the evolution of TV.
