It is widely thought that families that eat meals together are better at communicating with one another, and as a result, the kids are more successful, as the parents take an active interest in their lives.
It has also been shown that people eat more while they are watching tv, which could lead to obesity.

We prefer eating at our table for dinner, with the tv off. The TV gets enough time during the day where we don't need it on while we are enjoying our meal and trying to have meaningful conversation and enjoy the company of one another. I work a few evenings a week so it's nice to be able to sit down and enjoy a meal with my family without any other interruption. IMHO more families should do this!

the benefits of sitting around a table, without the TV or anything else on, is that you focus on the enjoyment of your meal and properly appreciate the efforts of whoever made it, and you are able to focus on talking to your family as you eat. There's an old saying, 'a family that eat together, stay together'.

Anyway, I think its probably a good idea if a family makes the effort at least once a week to all sit around the table together, to eat and talk, and enjoy each other's company without any other distractions.

We always eat at the table, it is the main focus of being in a family. Grew up in a large family and the tv set was always off when we had our meals at the big table in the kitchen. No radio either, just friendly conversation and no talk about major issues. Here in Hungary every home I have been to is about the same, everyone eats their meals at the table in a group and it takes a long time to eat, wine is served, then coffee and desert, the kitchen is the major place where the families gather. My husband and I will sometimes eat our cake or fruit salad in the living room using the coffee table but most evey meal is at the table. I will sometimes have a snack of a half sandwich while watching something on netflix but I usually don't eat after 5 pm. When we had our house with the swimming pool and patio, we ate outside on the glass garden table.

No TV, No cell phones, no record player. I am 55 yrs old. My fondest memories (now) of my parents,is sitting at the family table for supper. As a young person, right up to a few years ago, I did not know just how powerful this time together was.
Just take the time...enjoy a meal at the family table....if only for 15 to 30 minutes. Eat UP!!! Enjoy.

I think it is very beneficial to sit at the table and eat the meal
My family still eats together. We turn the tvs off. We turn the music off. We dont answer the telephone and we all sit down and enjoy one another. I think it brings the family closer together, when we communicate.

One thing that we really enjoy doing at the dinner table is sitting in someone elses seat. We act like, talk like, eat like, and imitate the person whose chair we are sitting in and it makes dinnertime enjoyable.

Try it!

Yes, I think so. I did it growing up and I think both parents and children benefir because they really learn about one another from table discussions and plus it allows that family time that most children and families do not get anymore. It cannot happen everynight but I think at least 3 meas a week should be spent at a table where all the family eats and shares together.

Our Elders teach us that as a family we should sit around and eat thus increasing the love between all members of the family.
Only selfish and arrogant people ignore family and watch TV while eating.

We already eat too many meals away from our families, so when we're all together, we want to eat at the table just to catch up.

I like sitting around the table, taking time to eat, drink and chat with friends and family. We eat regular with a large group of friends around a table, so you can chat with everybody.

of course, when alone, i love to hang in front of the tv and eat my pizza there!
