I would suggest that you steam clean the carpets and the seats. If you don't know anyone with a steam cleaner (with the hand attachment, you'll need that) I would advise you to rent a Rug Doctor available at most Walmarts or grocery stores in your area. It will get the odor out and it will stay out. And Febreeze can't hurt to make it nice smelling. Leave your windows and doors open if you can, to help dry out the seats and carpet, if you close it up right after cleaning it could get that dirty dog smell if you know what I mean.

But too it is important to clean the air ducts in your car. You need to turn your a/c or heater on full blast. Then go outside the car and there is an air inlet right under the windshield and before the back of the hood. Spray some Lysol directly into that inlet and keep spraying back and forth for about 7 minutes. Check the interior of the car to see if the air that is blowing is "clean smelling". This also helps kill any molds or mildews within the air (heating or a/c) system. I do it every spring and fall.

Good luck!!!

The only way to get the smell out of the car is go to the source - all the fabric and surfaces of the car. Even after a good deep steam cleaning and scrubbing, on a hot day the smell may remain...

I'll point you in the right direction. Bob Vila, the home "fix-it" specialist has a web site.

On this site there is a forum with many solutions for you to read. The general concensus is that Febreze (the odor killing pump spray) is just a temporary solution. Most solutions that last entail the mixing of a cleaner such as Pinesol (sic?) and vinegar.

See the source link below.

I would let the professionals to it. Bring your car to a valeting and explain the problem. It is crucial not to forget to clean the interior ceiling of your car as all the smoke goes straight on it.

If you already tried all kinds of cleaning with no success than you probably forgot to clean the ceiling. Give it a good old wash, with a carpet cleaner, or just ask the guys of your nearest car wash do it for you.

Good luck

A good shampoo of the carpets and thorough cleaning of the upholstery. Follow up with washing off the dash and other accessories with a strong-smelling cleaner. Air out and presto: brand new scent.

Clean and Dissinfect it really good, maybe use some Febreeze, put an air freshener in it. Or stick a couple of fabric softener sheets between the seats.
