My guess would be that if you get them from the dollar store, there would need to be a certain percentage of the pregnancy hormone in your system for it to show up. Seems like the cheaper the test the more hormone there needs to be. The more expensive ( First Response ex. ) needs less of the hormone. Each test is different. I put a website on here to show you how much of the hormone is needed. I would personally either give it a little bit and try again, or put your mind at ease and pay the extra money.

Pregnancy tests look for a special hormone in the urine or blood that is only there when a woman is pregnant. This hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), can also be called the pregnancy hormone.
The pregnancy hormone, hCG, is made in your body when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. This usually happens about 6 days after conception. But studies show that the embryo doesn't implant until later in some women. The amount of hCG increases drastically with each passing day you are pregnant.
Many home pregnancy tests claim they can tell if you're pregnant on the day you expect your period. But a recent study shows that most don't give accurate results this early in pregnancy. Waiting one week after a missed period will usually give a more accurate answer.
Most brands tell users to repeat the test in a few days, no matter what the results. One negative result (especially soon after a missed period) does not always mean you're not pregnant. All HPTs come with written instructions. Most tests also have toll-free phone numbers to call incase of questions about use or results.
The amount of hCG in the urine is different for every pregnant woman. So, some women will have accurate results on the day of the missed period while others will need to wait longer.
Some brands of tests can pick up lower levels of hCG than others. But limited research makes it impossible to say for sure which one is the best. Even so, two studies suggest that First Response, Early Result Pregnancy Test may be more sensitive than others. So for women who want test early, this is probably the best product.
You may want to try First Response, Early Result Pregnancy Test , I tried it before I even missed my period and came back positive which currently I'm due in a few weeks. Good luck!!
I would suggest wait a week and retake the test.

You can get them for $1 at the dollar tree, and they are very accurate (testing as low as 25 hcg). They are the same type that my obgyn uses. I would also like to add that I had multiple false negatives with the expensive "early response" tests up to a week AFTER my missed period. I wouldn't waste the gas money to go and buy one of those. The only thing you are paying for is million dollar ad campaigns.

the dollar store tests are not as effective in terms of time. most dollar tests can detect a pregnancy 1 week to 2 weeks after a missed period that is why they are only a dollar

the dollar store tests are as effective as the urine test the doctors office gives (they read positive at 25 units of hormone)
they can detect pregnancy as early as 4 days before your period just like any early result test can.
they are most effective if you test the day you miss your period or later (just like any other test)
they only cost a dollar because they are unadvertised and don't have fancy packaging

The ones from the dollar store work, but I think with detecting very early pregnancy you need to go with a better quality one. Good luck!

i think it really dont matter if you use a cheap pregnancy test they all work the test dectects in urine the hormone your body makes during pregnancy;hcg[human chorionic gonadotropin] most women have enough hcg to be dected as early as four days before their expected period.however some pregnant women may not have dectable amounts of pregnancy hormone in their urine one the first day of the missed period or may have miscalulated the first day of their period

a lot of things they sell at dollar stores like vitamins and prenancy tests, even food are overages from othe rstores that could not sell them. most of these items are waaaay past expired and therefore would not be effective for the purposes you buy them for. sorry, i'd go to your doctor, a free clinic, or buy a brand name one
