You should know that an MBA in Finance is very different from a PhD in finance or even a Master's in Financial Engineering. Both of those are very mathematical. If you are interested in those degrees, you need to know a lot more math than the typical MBA.

PhD programs in Finance are very hard to get into -- but you can get a PhD in Economics with a field in finance. The top finance programs get between 200-500 applications per year and only accept 4-9 students. The top economics programs take in 40-60 students per year.

But if you want further study, there are other alternatives. You could do something completely different. Obviously, a MA in history might not help you much in business -- but could be good for the soul. You could consider other professional degrees (MS in Accounting, MS in Engineering, JD).

If you don't want another degree and want to learn more about practical finance, you could take the CFA exams.

if you've already got an MBA, you could get a Masters in Finance or go for a PhD in Finance. Or try the actuarial exams.
