This is tough question and probably belongs in the domain of philosophy rather then in psychology, however I can see it is related to the latter as well.
The nature of ethnics streams from several needs of social placement in and molded with perceived self-reflection. The placement is based on the premises of good and bad, where the definitions of good and bad are different for different people. Religious doctrine frequently serves as framework for these definitions. There is probably the good the bad and the ugly classification of ethics, however I personally subscribe to the ideas of ethics put forth by Baruch (or Benedict) Spinoza.
The moral distinction seems to me a rationalization in attempt to resolve an ethical dilemma. On of the examples are the ongoing legal battles in assisted suicides and abortion are dealing with the moral distinction between killing and letting die.
I hope it answered your question.
Thank you for giving me something interesting to think about.

This is the truly defining concept for humans. There is nothing an animal does that is unethical. Everything they do is for their survival. However, for us, since we live in a society, we must have rules (to avoid chaos and anarchy).
Shakespeare said that there is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so. What's good in some cultures is bad in others. The point is we need rules so we all know where we stand with one another so that there is general harmony.
Moral distinction implies that someone has found a solution to a difficult dilemma. This means that even finer rules can be made in a given circumstance.

Ethics (from Greek á¼¦Î¸Î¿Ï meaning "custom") is the branch of axiology, one of the four major branches of philosophy, which attempts to understand the nature of morality; to distinguish that which is right from that which is wrong. The Western tradition of ethics is sometimes called moral philosophy. Ethics in plain words means studying and analyzing right from wrong; good from bad.

Morality deals with that which is regarded as right or wrong. The term is used in regard to three contexts: individual conscience, systems of principles and judgments, sometimes called moral values, shared within a cultural, religious, secular, Humanist or philosophical community and codes of behavior or conduct derived from these systems.
