there is no easy way to do it, 1st of all you must want to stop smoking, no one can ask it of you.
i tried all the tricks and in the end i went cold turkey, i had been trying to stop for a few years and never managed.
After i stopped i found that i enjoyed not doing it, i used to love a ciggie and smoked loads.
you really ned to think of the benefits of stopping like more money, smelling better, feeling better, tasting things, not feeling like an outcast (got that a lot outside supermakets!) not to mention the health problems you could encounter!
what ever you decide you have to do it for you and you must want to do it, will power can be very stong and if you have enough you can stop, always think positive!
good luck with whatever your choices are

Why does it have to be today? You know, if you slowly cut down the amount you smoke over say the period of a week, by at least 2/3 it'll help a lot with quitting. Cravings will still be there. But once you've cut it down to say... 2-3 a day, I recommend going to 1 a day. After that, one every other day, until you can finally bear going without a smoke.
Mind you, this isn't a comfortable process but it is far less painful than just Quitting cold turkey, or using the medical approach. It's all about resisting urges and having some will power. You might need to find a tad bit different hobbies for a little while to until you can do your old ones without the urges to smoke.

Just imagine the amount of money you would have if had not spent them on those butts. I am sure it would have been an enormous amount you could have saved for the rainy day or may be for one of your kids college fees, or did something wonderful for your home, Quit now and every day u feel the urge to buy a pack keep that amt aside for ur favourite cause.
Y don't u try nicotine patches or go to a center to de-addict your self.
OK thes another thing, would you like your kids to smoke like you one day, a never turned off chimney, and do you want to see them die young. Mortality is very high among chain smoking families. You do your best to quit today then it will be easier to help your kids understand the repercussions of this slow dangerous addiction. You don't want to end up being a burden on ur kids wen u grow old with a lung cancer or some kind of dangerous ulcers.
Its all in ur mind. If u tune it ur advantage its easier to bend the edge.

A cig can seem like a little thing...If you really want to stop you must convince yourself that it is NOT! You have to shock yourself into quitting. As the previous posters said, try putting a poster of a diseased lung in your room (or your porch where you smoke). Also try attending one of those lectures that are given in schools about not smoking. Or maybe as the American Cancer Society for a free video. Whatever, come up with idea that will work for you.
If you have a family, have them sign a non-smoking contract with you. If you do, and you love them (hopefully more than you love smoking) you might be able to bring yourself to stop. If you have children, imagine what smoking would do to them (if they are young and play outside, think of them wheezing and out of breath, if they play sports, think of them unable to run a lap around a track). Think about this EVERY time you want to light up. Also, get a "I'm Quiitting" button and wear it. Then throw away all your cigs, your lighters, etc. If you keep the button on, you'll constantly be reminded of your pledge. Also, it will look awaward when you go to buy smokes.
Smoking is also physical. If you really can't stop the nicotine addiction, try a gum, a patch, or the new laser thereapy. The laser, while expensive, basically gives you the relaxation from smoking like you would ge twhen you light up, but it lasts 7-10 days. According to science, true physical withdrawal only lasts a week. Don't smoke for a week, and your addiction is GONE! After that its all phsycological. So avoid situation when you would want to light up. Instead of sitting on the porch and lighting up, go play with your kids. If you have a no-smoking in the house rule, stay in there most of the time. Go on vacation a few days later, you will be having fun (without the stress of your job and whatever) and so will not want a smoke.
In the end, quitting is about willpower. You must NOT want to keep smoking and you must enforce that decision with yourself. Or try giving powers to your husband to enforce it (if he sees you light up, he grabs the cig) etc. Also, if you read and smoke STOP READING! At least outside, there are stimuli associated with smoking. Instead, watch a movie, or read to your kids.
Hopefully, these helped you stop smoking...Try a help group if nothing else works. Be committed and you'll win!
BTW, go to the listed sites. On the eHOW site, read the comments, they are helpful and inspiring!

There are tons of ways to help you quit smoking. Its a matter of researching and trial-and-error. The first thing you try, or even second or third, may be what helps. On the other hand to, despite the grief you get from your family if you aren't ready to quit for you then nothing will work. You have to want to quit, quitting for someone else will only cause more problems.

I've tried to quit too. When I was pregnant with my kids I quit but my husband would smoke and just the smell of it would set me back so after I had my kids I would start again. Now its even harder to quit cause I'm a stay at home mom and my kids are 2yrs and soon to be 1yr old boys. Its hard to quit but I wish you the best of luck and there's gotta be someone out there who has done it and has a few suggestions.

Keep that smoking up and someday you will be gasping for breath and hacking up all kinds of nasty stuff. Your family will watch you suffer and don't think that won't tear them up inside. They'll remember how they used to beg you to stop and you refused. You keep smoking and you're making those cigs your top priority and if your children should have children, they could very well resort to telling their children about you and showing them your pictures as your smoking killed you and you never got the chance to see and know your grandchildren.
