Are people capable of consuming and using only necessary info? Or do they need policing? Can there be any threat to national security if searches on engines are not tracked?

The Internet should NOT be screened, monitored or blocked. There are other ways to protect national security than to track the citizenry's Internet activity. The basis behind the free exchange of thought would be undermined if people were afraid their government were watching and there may be repercussions for their actions and thoughts. I am unequivocally opposed to any kind of monitoring of adults in pursuit of whatever they wish to search for. If you wish to monitor your children's activities, that is fine but as an adult, I do not need the government or anybody else to monitor and/or censor my activities.

Policing the internet for child predators such as adults posing as children to catch predators is fine. If you are not a child predator, you have nothing to worry about. It would be similar to policing the streets for drug dealers in the cities, if you are not dealing, there is nothing to worry about but I am opposed to monitoring and tracking of people's free exchange of thought.

It all depends especially when it comes to protecting children. The government is bent on policing the web but if it starts interfering with basic rights like freedom of speech, then it's going too far. It needs to be limited and the government needs to draw a line as to what is acceptable and what isn't. I think they have people already policing the web. Just look at some of those "To Catch A Predator" special running on Dateline. Technically isn't that policing?

yes it should. I have 4 kids and they want to use the computer and I'm afraid that they are going to get on a site, not necessary dirty, but in something that can be harmful to them. I am constantly telling they can't get on there because, with 4, I can't sit there and watch them all the time. Yes, I know about the programs like Net Nanny, but as with everything else, I'm sure they can get around it. That is not what worries me so much as it is the chat rooms that they might think is safe.
