never developed anymore symptons... if this same male wants to have a child now, are there any risk of the baby being born with any congenital defects? I guess, the question... were his sperm affected by this infection 11 yrs ago?

Not anymore. The baby won't get syphylis because the man was treated and the sperm was renewed and doesn't have the treponema pallidum any longer.

Hope however that other sexually transmitted diseases were ruled out.
