Do they exist while they are 'lost'?

When you die, your sould is zoomed off to another level of consciousness. You end up falling from high up in the sky, and... Lo! a giant pile of mismatched socks is there to break your fall.
Feel free to interpret this on a greater level, but:
The more socks you lose in life, the softer your landing in the afterlife.

Yeah, of course they do. Because when they are lost it doesn't mean that they can't or won't be found. Even if the chance is highly unlikely that you will find the other sock, there is still a small chance. So they still exist, unless they get incinerated in some far away garbage place, poor sock :P

Each one is searching the other to get paired again if it had not been torn to pieces by any stray dog or cat or rat taking a fancy to the SWEET smell emnating from the lost sock.

What I do is purchase 10 pairs of alike socks. so as that way at the same time as my washing gadget or dryer eats one I alway have an better sock, that way at the same time as they eat yet another sock I actually have yet another one to compare.

Socks do disappear from you dryer ...... and i have discovered where it is that they go
To the public laundromat ..... ever go there and for no reason find a red sock in with your clothes? Now you know why
