The two key games in groups A and B are:
Ecuador v. Germany 20/6/2006 16:00
England v. Sweden 20/6/2006 21:00
That means England will know the score of the ECU v. GER game before they play Sweden. If Ecuador wins or it's a tie, Ecuador wins the group and plays the *second place* team in group B while Germany would finish second play the *first place* team in group B.
If Ecuador win or tie, England will lose by one.
If Germany win, England will draw or win by one.
***** See, what did I tell you? *****
I'm not saying the Brits would deliberately throw a game to Sweden - the Swedes could beat them on their own - *but* if Ecuador wins group A, the English might be better off finishing second and let the Swedes play the Germans.
Odds are, you won't see Loony - oops, Rooney - in the lineup against Sweden, regardless of how England play or who wins the other game.
