Some email clients show the time the email was sent, some the time received and some can show both.

If you have a client that shows only the received time, you can look at the email headers. The client that sent the email usually places when it was sent in a Date field. Each mail server that relays the mail will also place a Received header showing the server that sent it and the time it received it.
