Your eyes have been covered all night under your eyelids while asleep or you stayed up all night partying and studying. If you are sleeping, then your eyes maybe allergic to something like pollen or pollution. If you are staying up, your tear ducts are stopping and the eyes are not getting cleaned because of interruptions of your sleep patterns. There are eye drops for dealing with allergies or dry eyes. To be safe, consult a doctor.

well i know swelling is caused by numerous factors, that being water retention and lymphatics. If your eyes arent injured or infected then water retention is the answer. this can be caused by high sodium intake (salty foods). so easy on the pretzels!!

Have you been rubbing your eyes? You may have scratched your cornea or given yourself an infection. See an eye doctor.
Or you may have an allergy.

I think this happens because you aren't used to the light. Besides, after they've been closed all night it's no wonder they're swollen.
