Depends on what the child does. I was spanked ONCE on my bare bottom, very unexpected from my father and I never got it again. I knew better after that. I don't think it's TOO effective especially if the parent is overly raged at the time and in that case it can be a shitty experience because then it's like you're taking it out on the child. I have spanked my children a few times when they were younger, not over the knee, but I've grabbed them by the arm and swatted their butt with my hand no matter what they were wearing. They are older now. So telling them very calming, but serious with a stern voice, that mommy or daddy are very upset with you, you can sit in your room until I tell you you can come out, works pretty well.

I spanked all three of my kids till they were 11. Then I had to become more creative in my punishments (i sentence them to hard labor or grounding). I am proud to say they are very well behaved and are working towards a promising future. If you don't instill fear into a child they fear nothing (ex: killing, robbing, drugs, etc.) If they have no fear, they don't know how to fear these things.

if you love your kids and see them growing with respect in you as a parent, you need to give them lessons and show the right and the wrong. prov.13:24 "He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly."
A good spanking will save your life son in the future.
prov.22:15 " Foolishness is bound up in the heart of child; the rod of correction will drive it far from him."
Give them a good spanking whenever they needed it and after that tell them how much you love them and what theyre doing is not good to them at all.
