Actually I think it's weird that people don't care about current events.
Politics do reflect about our daily lives, the attitude of our government receive responses in foreign policy which can translate into local policies and so on.
Not to care about things that affect our standards of living is weird.
For instance, I once hitched a ride with a guy and at some point he had to refuel (couple of weeks back). After he refueled he reentered the car and drove on while cursing about the fact that the oil station had rose the prices a notch. At that point I mentioned US policy about Iran and all that stuff, when he just looked at me and said: "What? I don't give a crap about that".
Well, better give a crap because when you get strip-searches every 10 feet while going to the mall, you'd better know why.

I'm 22 and I follow politics ruthlessly. I used to listen to 5 hours of talk radio a day and read blogs by night. Sure I have a social life and the friends that I keep either don't care that much about it.. but it's something relevant to keep your mind a hold of. If you find yourself in random or extensive pits of depression.. stop listening to the news and reading the headlines for a week at a time to wean yourself free from it. Sometimes it gets depressing what some people will do to this country.. either way you look at it.

NO, it doesn't make you weird at all. It may seem weird to you because you are comparing yourself to others your age, who have grown up with an expectation of mediocrity for themselves and their world. You have obviously risen above that, and are taking a direct interest in the issues that will truly effect your life and the lives off all the sheep around you who are too concerned with voting for the next American Idol to care that their civil liberties are being systematically taken away. Don't let your peers suck you down into their ignorance.
My daughter is only seven years old, and she probably understands more about philosophy, politics and religious history than most adults. She asks why her friends don't learn these things. It's because most people have been raised to be average, and they raise their children with expectations of mediocrity, and they they are disappointed at the mediocre lives they lead. But I want her to live up to her potential. We all should. But very few do. And that lowered expectation -- the expectation that it's alright to excel at video games but wierd to be interested in things that effect the entire world stage -- is what is destroying this great country of ours. I applaud you.

Nope, you're not weird. However, it makes the people you know lame. They should care about their government and how they are screwing everyone over and leaving us cold.
The people you are talking about are the reason we have problems in our government in the first place....Not enough people care about what is going on so those of us that do, since we are so few that even KNOW, are left holding the bag without enough hands to sift thru the crap.
Sorry to say, you're generation will soon have to pick up the pieces. I just hope for my generations sake, enough of you actually are paying attention now, to help make it better later.
From what I have seen and what you're saying, it doesn't look good.

No, you're not weird. I'm 20 and I care a lot about what happens in the political realm because it will effect us if not today then a couple weeks, months, or even years down the road.

It's not weird because you are 23, but it's a little weird because you are a girl, I have met 20 something people caring about politics, but all of them are guys, except for activists, it's very rare for girls to take interest in politics.

no, we need more young people like you. im 26 and i use to hate politics until the 2000 election. we the people regardless of age need to be informed about current events. there are people who cant name there 2 state senators but they know every thing about brad pitt and angelina jolie! we also need to inform the average ctizen that it is not just the presidential elction that is important but all elections are important at the state and local level including congress, state and local senators, and local city officicials. the more informed we are about politics the more harder it will be for any corrupt politician that is out there to try and fool us.

I've been interested in politics since i was 10. Started to read newspapers n watching news to know what's happening in this world.
Maybe it's cuz my dad likes it n i like to discuss bout political stuff with him.
I knew stuffs most of my peers dont. They know the latest news bout celebs n all that craps, i dont care bout it. just cant be bothered to read that rubbish.
sometimes they think im a li'l bit weird cuz i like this kinda stuff, but hey.. i like it. so why'd i give a damn? :)
