You could run the dishwasher without any dishes in it, but add a cup of vinegar to the bottom of it. That may help.
If you have very hard water, with lots of lime, fill the detergent cup with two ounces of ascorbic acid (one $2 bottle from druggist is usually good for several cleanings). Run the empty machine on rinse for a few minutes, let it stand a few minutes more, and let the rinse cycle complete. Use heated (not energy saver) drying.
To remove mineral deposits (caused by hard water) add a cup of vinegar to a load.

I ran oxi-clean in my dishwasher. When it was dried from that, I put Murphy's oil Soap in a bucket with water ,and washed the inside again by hand. I am sure you could use some othertypre of cleaner, but that is what I had.
The crystal tablets that are used for cleaning dishes can also be used for cleaning the inside of your washer.
Remember to keep the door open, even just a little bit, until the dishwasher dries out. This is a big reason for moldy smell.

Put an empty dishwasher thru a normal wash cycle, using a bleach and water solution instead dish soap. Once that is completed, put the dishwasher either thru the cylce again with no cleaners, or just an extra rinse, to get all the bleach out.

Kraft makes a drink called Tang. Put a package of this in the dishwasher and run a cycle. It will give an orange smell and also refresh the seals of the door of the machine.
Go down to dishwashers on the link.

Run a couple of scoops of Oxi Clean into the dish washer with out any dishes and run the hot cycle. That should help to get rid of the odor.

chances are it's coming from inside the casing around the dish washer, in there is a lot of insulation & when it soaks up all that dish water smell, it's hard to get rid of it, but you could aways take it apart & put in new insulation or just get a new one.

Run it empty with either 1/2 cup of bleach or vinegar, or 1 scoop of oxyclean. After that stops, run it again with nothing but water.

pour a cup of vinegar in the wash and then do two washes with nothing in it! Or put vanilla extract on a handful of cottonballs and put them on a dish and set it inside and let it sit for a day!
