As long as she did not abuse the child there is no problem at all. I had a belt, chain and good ole switches from the hedge bushes as my disciplinary tools and I turned out just fine. What is wrong with most of today's children is they are not being disciplined by their parents. That's why we have so many hooligans running around back talking adults, abusing drugs and each other. Just remember the key word here is abuse. Everything must have a limit. Children should and must have a small element of fear for their parents. After all, why not, we teach the flock to fear God!

Did she hit him or threaten him...was she drinking? Can she go to parenting classes? Does she have a support system ...like family and friends in the community? There is not enough info. for me to say that she is a bad mother. Brit. Spears on the other hand...I think is not such a great mother.

differant people have differant ideas on discipline, i for one find belts to harsh. I would maybe discuss some better options with her. Tell her that if u ever have children together you dont want a belt used on them. Tell her that hitting only shows them the bigger person wins.

Disciplining your child with a belt can be a bit brutal. Slapping a tush ONCE for back talk is normal, long as it leaves no mark. Common sense. Is she loosing it with her kid? I would think so if she's using a belt.
