The recent movie The Lake House from Korean one "Il MARE", and before time The Grudge, and more even The Ring? How do you feel about them, or do you like the original asian style???? Why and why not?

The Ring stayed close to the original Asian version, but others like the Grudge, and as someone said previously, Point of No Return, they were poorly remade. Also, I think the Japanese version of "Shall We Dance?" was far better than the version made in the States.

Personally, I feel Americans are remaking Asian concept films because a) Hollywood has run out of ideas, the industry, in general, is running out of ideas for films; b) American industry likes the concept of the Asian films [and for some reason sees it fit to remake them (why?)]; or c) American society doesn't embrace foreign films, so Americans feel it necessary to create an English version to satisfy American movie-goers (again, why?).

The Ring remake was fairly well done as the US team stuck very closely to the Japanese plotline. Ju-On was better than The Grudge, as the remake drifted too much.
The worst foreign film remade in the US was Point of No Return which was a lame-assed remake of the Luc Besson classic, La Femme Nikita.
