First of all WTA means "Women's Tennis Association" and the current best player is Amelie Mauresmo, top of the WTA Tour Ranking System and has won many titles including the Australian open. But many would say Justine Henin Hardenne is better.

I will choose Justine-Henin Hardenne because she is the most consistence player in WTA Tour. She is the Australian Open finalist and French Open winner for this year. That was the most excellent performance by Justine Henin-Hardenne this year. She is only player who played two final Grand Slam.

grass court: maybe venus and serena, can be sharapova, kuznetsova or Clijsters, Vaidisova and Mauresmo. They all are very good
hard court: kuznetsova, sharapova, williams sisters, Clijsters and Vaidisova
These days, in the WTA there are a lot of excellent players, it is very competitive

Lindsay Davenport/K Clijsters on Grass & Hard court. Sadly Lindsay withdrew from Wimbledon today. So Kim/Venus/Sharapova are the contenders.

She is so all round players. She did excellent in all different court include the clay.
Although she looks not so powerful, she play the game with her brain.
