Bullying is a part of toughening-up process in our society. Most of the time, bullies, have underlying problems such as depression, decreased self-esteem, anxiety, anger or sadness. Usually bullies have a need to show others that they are strong and tough because from where they came from they are unloved, their voices are not allowed to be heard. So, they prey on people whom they perceive as weaker than they really are. But if these people fight back, they usually back off.

I used to get bullied everyday of my childhood years. And from personal experience, I'd say the only reason why children bully is because they get no attention at home. Which will promote low self esteem, and jealousy towards others who have things that they don't.

Bullies are a self-fulfilling prophecy. This means that they have a difficult time having and maintaining friendships as children, so their personalities grow to cause more reason to push people away. They create this tough exterior as a shield so that they won't let anyone know how lonely they are.
