It was already known that some people produce "come and get me" smells which appeal to the blood-suckers.

Rothamsted Research, in Herts, found those less likely to be bitten produced odours which masked these scents.

The natural repellent could be used to protect everyone from the bugs, suggests the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.

I've wondered this myself, and since becoming an adult, noticed that I'm not bitten as much as I was as a child. So I did a little research awhile back, and found out that mosquitoes are attracted by how much carbon dioxide you express in your breathing. In other words...the more you exhale, the more they're attracted to you. So children are bitten more, especially when playing hard outside, because they're breathing harder than you are. Most adults outside tend to be sitting on patios, porches, enjoying the sunshine, whereas children are more active.

Anyway, they now make a "Mosquito Magnet" that costs about 300 dollars (US) that puts out carbon dioxide and attracts them away from people, to the unit, to be eliminated. I've been thinking about getting one, since my grandchildren will be in the yard playing almost all summer in the evenings (I'm taking care of them while their Mama works) and this will help keep the bites down.

Hope this helps! :)

You know I have heard the answer to this before, I think on National Public Radio. It has something to do with a particular scent that the blood of certain people give off, the mosquitoes can smell it.

I personally hate the little buggers, some "Cutter" bug spray usually keeps them away!!

Blood group is the reason.
Science also states that if u hav bananas, u hav increased chances of gettin bitten frm a mosquitoe as the sugar levels in the blood increase due to banana intake.

Well, I've read somewhere facts about this. I don't remember anything except that mosquitoes prefer people who just ate bananas. ^_^;; Don't know if that is true though. But maybe it's true.. I'm a banana lover, and .. eheh it seems like I'm the one with the worst mosquitoes fan in my family ever.

Because some people give off more sweat and a sweeter smell that is not detected by the human nose and it attracts the mosquitoes. But, mainly it starts off by giving off that extra sweat and moisture. The best beat to keep them off you is by taking garlic pills. This even warts off fleas and ticks too.
