(All these bands are mainstream, look at album sales and airplay)
i dont think you can really any of these bands suck. just listen to the music, and forget about all of the business behind it. If you get caught up about what theyre classed as. you cant really call yourelf a music fan if you judge bands on their social standing, just ease up and judge them on their music.
If you think about it, all truly good bands will sell out eventually, people hear music and buy it, theres no way of avoiding it. would you be more angry if a band sold out of if they stopped making music all together? Think to youself, if you were in a band, would you quit and stop playing so you dont make millions of dollars and fans? Didnt think so. Moreover, if a singer or band member leaves, what is he going to do? Join another band and quit before they make it big? However, Thats not to say all bands and singers are good... look at the backstreet boys or fifty cent...

Korpiklaani. Okay, they aren't mainstream, even in Finland, but they are one kick a*ss folk metal band. Give 'em a listen. Mainstream? In this era? Nothing. Maybe if you go back to Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Otherwise, mostly garbage, there's even a band called garbage. How fitting.

Do you mean currently, or always? I think that some MS bands of the 60's and 70's were great, but now very few.
