$300-$400 a week is about right. Broadway Dancers get paid a minimum of $1300 I think.
Most likely ballet dancers just dance for a living. With rehearsals and classes, there is very little time for another job. I suppose a part time job teaching dance is good.

Two of our family friends dance for a professional ballet company. He has been dancing there for 11? years and his wife has been dancing there for 3-4 years. I think he earns about 40,000 a month and his wife probably earns a little less. But on top of that, he teaches ballet at a local studio so he has some salary from that. They both also dance with another company that rehearse and whatnot during the summer time. Most major ballet companies have a 9 month work schedule so ballet dancers often take on other jobs during the summer.

I'm going to copy some snippets of information from the government's publication called the "Occupational Outlook Handbook":
Working conditions:
<>
Training:
<>
Job Outlook:
<< Dancers and choreographers face intense competition for jobs. Only the most talented find regular employment....>>
Earnings:
<>
What all this means, Greatchick, is that the chances of being ANY KIND of professional dancer is very, very, VERY, slim. The chances of being a professional BALLET dancer are even slimmer. Your chances are zero if the program you're auditioning for requires shorty pants and a solo. If you're not going to take dance training very, very, VERY seriously, then you should be focusing on another career entirely, as you'd only be pursing dancing for fun.
Typically, professional dancers also teach in order to support themselves, as it offers the most flexible kind of schedule. However dancers also find work in any number of jobs to supplement their earnings. The more marketable skills you have, the better off you'd be.
