It is possible for a team to finish in 2nd place in a world cup group with 2 points (losing to the 1st team and drawing with the other 2 (who must also have the same record))
It is possible for the top 3 sides to get 6 points, i.e. one side would be knocked out on that total.
Has it ever happened, and to who ?

West Germany and Switzerland qualified with 2 points in 1954. Bulgaria in 1986 had 2 points. (2 points for a win then).

My maths is not great, but isn't it impossible to not qualify with 6 points?!?
(and for the person who said Italy 1982 - they had 3 points, trust me I just checked all the group stages of all the previous world cups. The above three are the only ones who have advanced with two points, and no one has ever failed with 6....)

It is possible, if 3 teams end up with 6 points, then the one with the max number of positive goals can go to the next round. It is possible for 3 teams in a group to have 2 wins and a loss.

The second case is highly unlikely, but possible too, if one team wins all the 3 games, and the other 3 teams draw their games, the result will be a group with one team with 9 points and 3 teams with 2 points each. The one who qualify will be the one with the least negative goals, or other means if the 2 teams are equal.

Interesting question though,

Of course both are theoretically possible, would take a bit of research which I can't be bothered doing, I would say failing with 6 points is more likely
