It has alot to do with the leadership in America.
George over in the White house had never left the country until he became President. He had no clue what was out there and really thought that there was nothing except water. So one fine day while sitting in his Air force 1 (that was still on the ground) he closed his eyes and said to his best buddy dick this is where we want to go and put his finger on the map.
Cause he was eating his Twinkies the map stuck to his finger and by the time he had taken it off there was this humongous hole in the map.
Yes you guessed it was the whole of the Persian gulf, middle east right up to Afghanistan that he removed with his other sticky hand.
With dick helping him, while munching on his 9th Hershey bar covered the map also in chocolate.
So imagine the mess when the secret service stepped in and said "Mr. President this looks like sheeet. So this was the beginning of George going after all the Shiites over in the gulf area.
It may sound totally stupid but I am sure this is how it happened.

Some Americans were born in Iran. Not sure who you're referring to when you say "America people"?

American schools teach something about other regions of the World. However, we focus more time learning about the USA and other subjects (math, science, language, music).

Most of US do know something about Iran. You must be hanging out with the few who "do know nothing" about Iran country and I'm guessing it's not the only subject matter they have no knowledge of.

If you have something you'd like the "America people" on Yahoo Answers to know, say it already, just know, some "America people" like some people from every other country, have difficulty remembering things.

there is alot of american that know about iran,i know some things about iran i have some friends there but i think it depends on who u ask most dont care cause they are so self centerd that they do not care about others.but if we all started caring about each other then this world would be a better place, and i think some people are afraid of how others live cause they do not understand it but if all would take the time to know then i think we could all get along.as for me i can get along with anyone and make friends with anyone i dont care where they live.people are people no matter where u go in this world:)

Many Americans do. It is the degree and diversity of the knowledge that differs. You may not know the intricacies of Iranian politics from the time of the Shah through Khomeini and now to Ahmadimedjad. But you may be a connosiseur about Persian caviar and carpets.

From a foreigner's perspective, Americans have all they need in their country and subsequently it seems to them that there is no need to know about other countries since there isn't much they would need from them. It's a knew type of ignorance.

What is the basis of your question?

Many Americans do know something of Iran and its history.
Is there a point that you are trying to make?

A question you might ask yourself, 'Do you really know and understand Americans?"
