As stated before, paper was made by the Chinese, but the Moores, the Arab ancestors that found their way to Spain, brought the paper to the Spaniards. Along with paper, the Moores also introduced the Europeans to their own style of Origami (folding paper into artistic forms).

Well, paper comes from the Greek word papyrus, which is the plant of the leaves of which they used to make writing material.
Further, in Pergamon of Ionia, they were making another kind of writing material, more expensive; that took its name from the city, pergamine.
