when I type a word into a search engine, I get a list of possible sites to visit, so far so good. But when I choose a site to visit I am often taken to a casino site or somewhere else that i don't want. I have to hit 'back', try again and usually I go to my intended site. It's really frustrating me now. Any ideas of how to get rid of this problem? id it something to do with cookies?

You have adware and/or spyware...more likely a hijacker.

Download Adaware and Spybot and run a scan and clean.

If all else fails, restore your PC using system restore or reformat your PC and reinstall OS

I have had this problem and there is some programs that will help fix it. It is either a spyware or virus issue. Go to www.downloads.com and search for Spy-bot and download it and then search for Ad-aware personal and download it. After you download them update and scan your computer with them. (its really self explanitory, but if you need help email me.) this should fix the problem. if it don't use ur anti-virus to scan for it, and if for some reason you dont have anti-virus i suggest AVG, there is a free edition. I dont exactly remember how to get it, but i know its there. That should get rid of it if the other two programs didnt. Once again if that dont work email me and ill see what else i can come up with

You are infested with spyware, and God knows what else. First; I hope that you are running both a firewall and an antivirus. Get "Spybot" right away. It's free and handles most spyware well.

Just Download & Use
1)Ad_Aware SE Personal - For those damn POP-UPs/ADs
2)Counterspy - For removing spyware prgrms.

These 2 are V.V.V.EFFECTIVE in their own departments but U can't go to download just 1 of them & expect to get both jobs done(I mean AD removals & Spyware detection/removals)

HAPPY COMPUTING.
LUV U. :-)
