I dont agree with your term, democratic, although I know what you mean by it. Fate would be a better term.

Although the plague didnt discriminate, the wealthy were in a better position to isolate themselves from it, than the peasants were. True, many still died, but I doubt seriously if the numbers of the wealthy were nearly as high as for the peasants, percentage wise. Impossible to say, really...but my instincts tell me so.

You just answered your own question so I'll tell you why it was not democratic. I don't think anyone got to vote on whether or not they were going to die.
