I change my dogs water everyday, sometimes twice a day. Tonight I found 3 maggots in her water. She sleeps in the garage at night, and goes to the bathroom on newspaper. Everyday I let her out and clean up the paper, and wash off the spot where the paper was, then put fresh paper down. Every weekend I hose down the entire garage floor and wait for it to dry before I put her back in the garage. (I found one maggot doing that last weekend) Also we don't keep trash in there because she gets into it and tears it up. So the garage is pretty clean.

I just worry that maybe she's sick or something. Maybe there's some type of worms that dogs can get that look like maggots?

I'd take the "maggots" to a vet and see if she's got worms or something, just to make sure that what you have is actually maggots.

Is there a reason your poor dog is banished to the garage? Dogs are pack animals and when we take a dog on then the family becomes their pack and it's cruel to separate them, forcing them to be alone at the time when they would ordinarily need their pack around the most to be safe--during sleep. Please reconsider how you take care of your dog. She needs your love.

Never heard of this problem before---try bleaching the bowl before you refill with water. I would think if the dog had maggots they would come out the other end in the feces--not in her water bowl.

It depends on the size of the bowl on how much your dog is drinking. I have two lab mixes that drink about 3 gal of water every two days, and that was in the winter, I expect it to go up once summer is in full bloom. Just keep the dishes full. If you are really concerned about how much water your rotti is drinking, take him to the vet to ensure that there aren't any health concerns. Good luck,

There is a good possibility that the maggots (worms) are infesting the INSIDE of your dog and when it goes to drink the worms are falling OUT OF ITS MOUTH INTO THE WATER DISH!! Take the dog to the vet! Especially if the dog looks skinny and undernourished or has yellowish eyes. Have you checked the dogs feces (poo) for signs of worms? If there are worms in the dogs excrement then there is probably a massive infestation of worms causing the above example of them coming out of the dogs mouth.
