she made it from the blankets in his pod... and just because it can be sewn doesnt mean it can be destroyed...
what the hell am I saying?? Its a MADE UP STORY!!!!!!

I seem to recall that Superman treated it with some sort of chemical to make it indestructible after it was sewn together.

It's only indestructable when it is hugging his skin. It takes on the properties of his super powers.
Or maybe Martha Kent used part of his space craft to make a needle.
I am grasping at straws here.
