People living on the Yangtze River live differently than Australians for a few reasons.
Yangtze River residents are in China, and are most likely ethnically Chinese, and speak Mandarin or another Chinese dialect. China is currently a communist country, but has a long tradition of imperial rule governed by Confucianist thought and Buddhist teachings. Yangtze River area residents may once have been mostly farmers, but probably more likely now live in rapidly industrialized cities.
The residents of Australia, for the most part are ethnically English, with some other large ethnic groups, including the indigenous Aborigines in the mix, while sharing a distinct Australian culture. Australian government is modeled off of English rule of law, and they speak English (their own dialect).
Most of Australia is rather arid, but most of Australia's population lives on the wetter eastern coast. Most of the western 2/3 of Australia is thus sparsely populated - so life in these parts is generally less dense, and might have more of a frontier feel. In the eastern portion, there are more large cities. In the Yangtze River valley, there would definitely not be a frontier feel, but a sense that this was the center of China.
