Its where the sides of your panties is nothing more than 2 strings attached, thats why they call it a g- string, like g-string bikinis.

there are only a few types of womens underwear. rear and front coverage goes in this order with a few exceptions:
briefs: full front and rear coverage
bikini: smaller rear and front coverage than above
boyshorts:typically same amount of material as bikini but the legs of the bottoms resemble short shorts
thong: smaller front panel still and typically on average about 1" of material covering the rear
g-string: smaller front panel coverage and the string being the only rear coverage.

gstring refers to the amount of material covering the genital or groin region; thus the name "g" string. it has nothing to do with the side material.

bottoms can be for example: string bikini panties or swimwear that refers to bottoms that have a full back coverage with string sides. and v-string is a trade name that Victoria secret uses to call its gstring line of bottoms. it is not a seperate type of bottom.
