.The blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body. The heart functions to pump the blood to the cells, so when the heart stops beating , the blood cant reach the cells and the cells eventually die due to lack of oxygen and nutrients. Thus a man dies when the heart stops beating.

First off a person does not always die when their heart stops beating as their heart can be restarted (what defibrilators are for). But if it cannot be restarted blood stops being pumped through the body, so it cannot provide the body with O2 (oxygen). The body needs oxygen to function, so when a person's heart stops they die.

Once the heart stops beating. oxygen is cut off from the rest of our organs, including our brain. If it is cut off for more than a few minutes, the brain dies, and so does the rest of us..

Blood is not pumped to the rest of the organs, especially to the lungs and the brain. All oxygen is turned into carbon dioxide and there is not enough for further respiration of cells. Since no respiration occurs, no energy is released and the man is just..a dead machine.
