See below for two sites that are at least as good, seeing as Zillow is apparently still in its beta stage. Another reason the sites below are as good (or better) is because their NAMES at least show some connection to their subject matter -- real estate. The name Zillow really says nothing about its subject matter; in fact, it sounds more like "pillow" than anything else! *chuckle*

Don't get me wrong; Zillow looks like a very nice site, and useful too. However, I think these others are just as good.

If you want to see a satellite picture of your location use virtual earth. If you want a value of your home, you won't get that from a website. zillow.com, bofa.com, and similar websites use loan information to give home values. For example, the home I have now was purchased last winter with cash. zillow.com shows the value of this home with the $$$ of the foreclosure from the previous owner in 2004. My neighbor bought her house in May and paid 1/2 in cash and financed the other 1/2. zillow shows her house with a value of the 1/2 that she financed (exact dollar amount). Neither case has anything to do with market conditions in our area. bofa.com's realty site shows my same house as being 30 years older than it actually is, and with a very wrong square footage. homefindinginfo.com makes you submit a form and supposedly will send you a report. It has been over a week, but because I said I did not want a Realtor to contact me I have not heard from them. If you want a value, call an appraiser. Or call a Realtor. A Realtor will be able to tell you what similar homes in your area have recently sole for or are currently listed at (and won't charge you if you tell him/her that you are considering selling).

Any Realtor can give you all of that information and more for free.

This info is really not a good judgement of the current value of your home or anybody else's for that matter.

Ask the people who work in your area as realtor's and you will have access to all of the information you would need. We give out this type of information everyday and have been doing so for over 20 years.

I'm a big zillow fan. And the satellite picture of my house? Scary.

The other site I've used in the past is Domania.com. You can look up previous home sales on that site.

You may be able to check the website of your local tax assessor or county recorder. If you are looking to sell your home a Realtor® will also be able to help you with this.

Good luck.
