We kill other animals and plants all the time. So why is it wrong? I've heard many other answers but none make true sense to me. Is it okay to kill other animals and plants, but not other humans? Is it because animals can't talk and aren't as smart? And just because plants don't respond and don't have the same level of thinking...is it still alright?

Sep I feel as strongly as you do on that point because all are living things including plants. Humans are very selfish and greedy. They take over most of the land and imprison the aminals and kill them to store in warehouses or for fun. One day im sure these lesser living things will take revenge and I will cheer them on looking down from heaven

1) Because it's against the law. Even if you don't understand why, this should be enough of an answer to satisfy you.

2) Because it is morally reprehensible. Humans are self-aware, self-actualizing, and of a higher intelligence with the ability to reason. Yes, they have more value than other animals, because they can accomplish great good for humans, animals and plants. (They can also put you in jail or take actions to keep you from doing it again.)

3) We only kill other animals and plants for food. There is no good reason for killing anything except for food. All life is precious and should be respected. But we have to eat something beside dirt, so killing vegetables and animals is a necessity. Killing humans is not.

4) We are to do unto others, as we would have them do unto us. This is because whatever we do, comes back to us in some form. Sort of a boomerang effect. Do you want to be killed?? Then don't do it to someone else.

Well, As for the killing of animals, it is very wrong. Cruelty to animals is intolerable and not justified.
You are right that animals and living organisms are killed and treated harshly but no one cares. But if you read through texts of any religion, be it Islam, Christianity or any other religion of the world. There is no mentioning of spreading cruelty to animals. We are asked to treat them as living beings.
Because animals and other living organisms also show sentiments.

We humans consider ourselves precious; as we can express or complain .So we say that it is wrong to kill humans.
This is true and wrong.
The world in which we live in requires a discipline and broad sense of understanding and tolerance. Humans have the ability to think, the brain is there to guide you. Otherwise Jungle rule "Might is right "applies to everyplace.

If everyone starts killing each other, war would prevail and there would be no peace, but this is human psychology that we look into our interests and we don’t not consider what our actions can do to other.
If we start considering every being as living being, then definitely a sense of security and peace will prevail.
But unfortunately, many do not understand, and the problems of the world are related to it.
This answer can be broadened a lot, but what I want to say is that Killing of living beings is never justified, be it any!
lol , didn’t mean to write an essay , that’s the way i felt regarding your question!

Sidra

We're on such a higher level of cognition and ability than all other plants and animals. Plus, as a society, we've learned that killing each other is wrong. But I'm not saying it's okay to kill other plants and animals, because it isn't. We should have respect for all living things.

Because you are ending a life that could have done something good for the world. Animals and plants don't really do as much for the world as humans can.

I see two problems with your question, from a christian standpoint, that is. First, You have misinterpreted the scripture that you quoted, saying "You shall not kill". In actuality the word used for "kill" in context is more accurately translated as "Murder". The major difference here being that a murder is intentional, premeditated, and for some personal gain to the person committing the act, by definition. In this context, it was listed as a commandment by God, not to murder another human being. As for not killing animals, scripture plainly states in Genesis that Man was given dominion over all the "beasts of the field" for food. This is why I don't personally advocate hunting for sport. Now, to answer your question as to WHY humans do it... the answer is simple... We humans have ELEVATED OURSELVES to a point that we think nothing else matters. There was a time when humans did live in relative harmony with all animals, displaying at least a measure of respect for them. We killed only for necessary food and nourishment. Now, however, Man lives in excess, and cannot get satiated, no matter how much he has. Hope this helps...

Killing is wrong, if there is no good cause behind it. The reason we kill plants and animals is for food. The reason people get killed is for things such as war (a cause), Crime (a reason), Cannibalism (food), and so forth. There is a reason for killing everything, the question is can you justify it for yourself?
