Do any of you insist on always being at home for baby making where you have everything you need (big pillow for hips, etc) or does anyone get spontaneous every once in a while and break out of the "missionary position at home" mold? Does anyone have any notions that home is the best/only place to conceive a baby?

So first, an old joke, from before the days of childbirth classes: A pregnant woman asks her doctor what position she should be in to deliver the baby.

"More or less the same position you were in when you conceived it," the doctor says.

"Good heavens!" says the woman. "You mean I'm going to have to ride around in a taxi all night with my head on the floor and one foot sticking out the window?"

The IDEA of conceiving in non-standard places was VERY appealing to us back when we were "in the game," so to speak. My wife and I started making plans to conceive on a trip to Europe when we decided we were ready to start a family. We began researching and scoping out our options -- who had what vacation time, how to make the budget work, when we'd start going and just leave the birth control home.

Both times, she became pregnant on pretty much the next immediate ovulation.

So until I had my vasectomy, if I mentioned wanting to go to Europe, or even said the WORD "Europe," she'd back away from me and say "Don't touch me."

As it is, we have three kids, all conceived at home (none in a taxi), though only one in the missionary position, now that you mention it... But I don't have any notions that home is the best/only place to conceive, any more than it's the best place to have sex if conception is NOT on the menu. There is something tremendously exciting about having sex in a new location, whether you're trying for a baby or just enjoying each other.

Home is most certainly not the only or the best place for trying to concieve. Very often it happens that a couple actually doesn't conceive until they throw caution to the wind and just enjoy themselves. Haven't you ever heard how many babies are conceived on holiday (away from home)? So my advice would be - let go of everything else and even forget for a while that you are trying to make a baby - instead, spoil your hubby rotten and enjoy one glorius night of simply making love...

Both my kids were conceived out of home - my oldest while camping and my youngest while staying at the in-laws (believe it or not). We had no intention to conceive at either events, and I was even on contraceptives with the younger one and 3 weeks after my period.... You cant beat that :)

I don't understand why people put so much pressure on themselves to fall pregnant. Just enjoy yourselves and when you least expect it, it will happen. The stress that women go through pregnant plays a big part in why they don't fall pregnant.

I hope you are in agreement with the partner that sex outside the bedroom, together of course, is way more stimulating, and exciting. I'm reaching a sexual peak just thinking about it. Where's my wife?
