yes and no. It's a necessary evil. Oh, and don't watch ferenheight 911. It's a bunch of made up BS. I think that's why Michael Moore has disappeared off the face of the earth.
Anyway, a lot of people are having problems with the wiretapping thing. Here's the deal. I started using the internet during the Clinton era. It was a common Instant message joke, if you will, to type the words "bomb" "terror" and a few others. The reason people would randomly type this is because they knew it "triggered" the wiretapping devices of the government. At the time i just thought it was an urban legend, but now i think there may have been some truth to it. I suspect that wiretapping of american citizens has been done for a long long time.

Bush is not taking away your rights. All he can do is propose legislation and then Congress has to vote on it. Congress, both Republicans and Democrats, have voted to extend the Patriot Act and other laws in the name of homeland security. Congress is the author and keeper of your rights, not the President. Therefore, Congress is taking away your rights not Bush.

Show me one specific case where someone was accused of anything other than terrorist activity as a result of being "spyed" on. If you can, then perhaps some of the wild accusations here would hold some water.
Many of the same people against post 9/11 practices are hypocritical if they believe you have the right to do whatever you want in a free society. Laws must protect your freedoms, even if it means some are invasive. If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about.
