Enjoys all sports in general and have even tried to gain interest in soccer by learning the rules and watching it. It still is a very slow moving and dull game. Prefers American football by far.

I believed that until I watched a whole game.
Yes, Football is SWEET to watch, action packed,
WAY more physical.........I think football is far more of a spectator sport.
When I say physical I mean play to play.....With the
break for huddle, break after each play, break for a
quarter, break for a half, time-out, stoppage if someone
gets hurt it is not a physically demanding as soccer.
By the way, if a player is hurt in Soccer the time gets added on to the end of the game
Throughout the whole game, each team gets 3 subs total.
Which means, 8 out of the 11 players do not get a rest until
halftime. Watching some of the physical play, there are some
pretty rough hits. I watched a Team America game where one
guy had a huge gash across his forehead from an obviously
intentional elbow........You know what he did, he got up, wiped
the blood off, ran off the field, changed his shirt, got a bandaid
and ran back on the field. While the game was still going on!!
If a player gets a red card or two yellows (they don't even have to be in the same game!)....Say goodbye to that position. So now its 10 against 11. More running.
Its more like watching Hockey or Baseball. The game could drag on for what seems DAYS...It is all forgotten with ONE key play.
So if you aren't a big hockey fan, baseball fan, or even golf fan. Maybe just wait till fall.
But.....If you want something to tide you over till footballl and maybe root for a team who can truly call themselves the best in the world, watch Soccer or Football, well European Football. Not Amercan Football

Personally I'm not a big fan of soccer. I don't think that it is all that exciting. I get annoyed that people try to put it on the same level as hockey, just because they don't like hockey. I mean for one thing a hockey rink is smaller so more action just off the lack of room. I think the NFL has better fans. I mean how often do riots break out because the fans don't like a call in the NFL? How many NFL stadiums have moats around the field? Heck even the Raider and Eagles don't need that done. As to the endurance though I do think soccer players have Stamina. Probaly more then NFL players or close to the same depending on the postion of each side's player. Here in America though kids play soccer and then outgrow it to play FOOTBALL.

I'm an American stationed in Germany - where the World Cup is hosted. I also coach an American Football team.
I am totally frustrated by the clogged traffic nightly...crazed fans waving flags...and it's compounded because my players don't come to practice...some are cops that are on hand for duty...others are sccer fanatics.
I have to tell you this...after playing 5 years of college football...and coaching at a collegiate level for the NCAA Division 3...
I think maybe your use of terms like pansy middle schoolers was pretty harsh and is probably the cause of any hostility...alot of the players are as big as any NFL quarterback or receiver...
and from a coaches perspective...there may not be the same impact response for the players...but it takes hella stamina to play that sport at that tempo for that long....
Now as far as the fans that rock...YOU have no idea how HUGE soccer is...until you are in the middle of it and live it.
Here in Frankfurt, suspended over the river...is a screen about 6 times the size of what you see at a football stadium...and the fans line both banks of the river - this screen alone has played for as many as two hundred thousand spectators...
yeah...200, 000 - ...when was the last time you watched a football game outside of a stadium with 200,000 other people.
I live in a small village...our local park decided to have an outdoor wide screen for the local pub dwellers to watch...then it went to 4 screens...now the city has installed a screen that covers the entire wall of one building and they have a ready made amphitheater to shelter fans from the rain...if it rains...or shade them from the Summer sun...my little village of maybe 10,000 people is expecting to seat 50,000 fans...
yeah football rocks...yeah fans are awesome...
I am so glad football is NOT this big at home...we wouldn't be able to handle it.

If you have actually watched a soccer game beyond middle-school level (which I suspect is the highest level of soccer you've watched), you'll know that soccer is not only action-packed, it requires a tremendous amount of stamina. Soccer players aren't as big because they don't need to be. Speed, agility and skills are the key elements in soccer, and not whether you're big enough to take your opponents down.
I think it's quite silly comparing the two because they're totally different and both have their own merits. To put one game down just because you think it's less manly is extremely juvenile. You say it's just your opinion, but I suggest that in future, you form informed opinions.
American Football is real only to Americans. The rest of the world couldn't care less about it.

Are you kidding me?
soccer is the #1 sport in the world.
I am a fan of both Football and soccer, more so football, but I would never say that soccer is for pansies. The athleticism of the players and the action of the game are great.
in football, the game stops every 20 seconds to set up and snap the ball again, where as soccer is almost 90 minutes of continuous action.
and yes, football players are bigger, but they cant preform nearly as well as soccer players.
EVERY country in the world is soccer oriented.
I live in the U.S, i have been to Italy and Austria, and i have never seen a more Die Hard group od fans than european soccer fans. they will literally KILL you if you disrespect their team.
whearas american football fans jump on the band wagon of the latest super bowl winner.

Arsenal have never been the top club in London for selling merchandise and have had to rely on match days for most of their money. Highbury only had about half the capacity Old Trafford has. Do your sums properly and you'll notice Wenger hasn't had the money to buy all the top players because it doesn't exist. They also have a new stadium to pay for and aren't badly in debt because he's managed the club properly. His legacy will live forever because he's done all the things are there for the future of the club. Having won anything at all was a massive achievement for the club.

interesting post.
it's interesting when people use the word manly. i'm thinking....boxing is waaaay more manly than football. and probably then, muy thai boxing is waaaay more stereotypically manly than boxing. the ultimate manly sport would have to be something like....shooting at each other with live ammo.
yes, that would be incredibly manly.
truth is, a sport is a sport.
that's all. nothing more or less.
it's not inherently manly to be a football player, or inherently ... uhm, manlyfemininely to be a softball player.
and by the way....
rugby players are officially, stereotypically as insane as hockey players, so people should definitely be careful about making stereotypical comments about them, unless they do so in a sufficiently confusing way so as to distract said players from any physical retribution which is shortly to be visited upon said person.
yes.
i have distracted well enough.
now i'll pull a rabbit out of my hat.

It depends on the person.
You should respect other people's interest's and opinion's no matter how silly or stupid it may seem to *you*
It's not always about being "manly", it's about the sport, winning, and competition between teams and other countries, and cities/towns.
Personally, I dont watch alot of soccer. Im more for hockey (Hurricanes won!). As for football I don't watch it at all. I find it confusing too many weird rules. Like even in Canada the rules are different.

Soccer actually looks really hard to me, just a different kind of hard. To play football you have to be huge and able to kick or throw really far and tackle people to the ground. In soccer, you have to run around constantly, and usually get in some interesting positions to kick/steal/save the ball. Soccer players have to be in great shape to play. Football players are either huge and toned and muscley, or just big fat guys. But I am more of a football fan.

Personally I think futbol (soccer) looks like a bunch of retarded monkeys running around chasing a ball and tripping over each other then trying to kick this tiny ball into a gigantic net. They often score 2, 1 or 0 goals. What a stupid game. Not even close to football.
