The big question I cannot figure out ... how come late in game 1, the backup goalie who came into the game for Edmonton was Ty Conklin - not Markennen? Markennen of course played goal for Edmonton from game 2 forward and was generally great.
Late in game 1 you might recall, Conklin came in and flubbed handling the puck behind his own net, which gave Carolina the winning goal. If it had been Markennen and not Conklin in game 1, that goal maybe does not happen, and maybe Edmonton wins Game 1, and who knows what would have happened.
So where was Markennen for Game 1?

Why discuss it? Because at the time of Roloson's injury, game 1 was tied 4-4, Edmonton had scored just two minutes before Roloson was hurt, they had momentum. Conklin coming in and mishandling the puck, giving Carolina game 1, was HUGE ... Edmonton wins game 1, they probably win the Cup (when the road team wins the first game of a series, they go on to win a series the majority of the time). The fact that Edmonton's coaching staff apparently didn't know who their second best option in net was could very well have cost them the Cup.
