i just installed a cmi8738 pci sound card with the latest drivers, but i get a scratchy, static sound in the background. no atter how i try adjusting the volume and everything, nothing helps. i am running winxp sp2 with a 1.7 ghz intel celeron processor. if anyone knows how to solve this problem or a site that will help me out, i would appreciate the info. i tried cmedia already and they dont have anything that will help me.

It sounds like it may be your speakers that are the problem if you have them up really loud and/or the treble/bass is really high turn that down also if you have a mic pluged into your PC unplug it or mute it also make sure the cable going from your PC to your speakers doesn't have any breaks in the wires anywhere if possible get new speakers also sometimes things around your speakers will rattle and shake when they're on making a staticy scratchy sound sometimes

in gadget supervisor it shud probly be a generically named gadget with a ! next to it or some thing probable in "different units" or unknown or some thing like that and u flow into residences and replace driving force, to get driving force u shud look at ur bill papers to work out what sound card u are making use of adn then locate drivers on line or call dell tech help duhzors

does all sound file provide same sound?

if yes then uninstall driver then install driver again.

download ur driver from driverguide.com

there might be some static interference in the air.
