A) Shop the local pawn shops. B) Yamaha is a good brand. C) If he's willing to part w/ the electric, take it & offer the pawn shop or used instruments store the electric as a 'trade in'. Depending on what the electric is, it may take off a part of the acoustic's costs, or may pay for an equal exchange if the electric is some good quality guitar. Before you trade it, though, do a little research as to what he has. The last thing you want to do is trade in a $2000 electric for a $75 acoustic w/ a bowed neck!

The best guitar for an adult beginner would depend on the kind of music you want to play what ever you buy i reccomend some thing in the 100 dollar range, nylon strings will be gentle on your fingers but steel strings will have a narrower neck, takamine, johnson, and ibanez are all decent brands for a starter, but if you get in to playing you will want to upgrade, martin, gibson, or any number of indepent handbuilders will provide a superior sound, but at a superior price

My suggestion is go to the guitar store and try a few you like, maybe bring along a buddy who know what a good acoustic feels like. Then go to some of your local pawn shops and try out some of their guitars and see if any are decent. I love pawn shops for buying guitars.

I would have to say the Squire Affinity Strat. It runs aprox: $170
Is a product of Fender, and is by all rights an purposes A Fender Strat. I would also like to point out that electrics are easier to handle; Thus allowing you to stick to it.

My advice - Go to a music store an play a few, find one you like (and can afford) then look for used ones on eBay.
Don't spend more than $100.

Get something that is high quality. If you buy a piece of crap that wont stay in tune, you will probably get frustrated and quit. *subliminal* buy an american fender *subliminal over*

Ovation Accoustics are pretty nice. They would give you a nice sound and are relatively easy to play.
