Hip Hop, like almost all music, came from the blues. It was never born, just stolen.

Actually it started in street parties in the south bronx.

Gangs would frequently start violent activities with rival gangs at these block parties so the locals and community would ask or compensate an exceptionally vocal person to draw attention to himself by shouting to the crowd during the dance music. This would distract the gangs from there violent ways and ensure a violent free party

it started from the time when the SLAVES were not aloud to speak during working the fields...so they sang. Kinda like a song with a "code". then the jazz, blues etc then hip hop and whatever was born.

wait...actually it really dates backt o africa. notice the similarities of hiphop and rap to tribal dances and song rituals.

South Bronx, and if you listen to James Brown, his style has a little bit of rapping. As of matter of fact a lot of rappers credit James Brown for introducing his jive talk and groovy walk. it was said that rappers adapted his style and took it to another level.
