I would like to explore maybe being an online counselor. I live in the state of Illinois. I just graduated with my M.A. in Counseling, and I have my NCC, and will soon have my LPC. Is there a way I can work at home, and get supervison independantly..so I can eventually qualify to get my LCPC? I am unsure about the process.
Any ideas on how I could work at home doing this online or over the phone?

Your best bet is to contact Illinois professional licensing division for LPC's or your graduate schools career serv. dept. However, it is my belief that you cannot get your license working for yourself (doing online counseling or any other counseling for that matter) UNLESS you were to set up a non-profit organization and then actually 'work for' or 'be employed by' it. The other problem is, your 'clients' would have to be self pay because insurance wont pay for unlicense prof. couns. Also consider ethical considerations.. misrepresentation, lack of experience, no liability insurance.. etc. hope this helps, Jeannette, MSW State of Missouri

I'm sure you could as there are many online advice/support groups. The one major problem might be maintaining confidentiality. Someone may be able to hack into the sessions, or retrieve saved information. That might scare away some potential clients.

I used to volunteer couseling teens at www.teenadviceonline.org, but it was vonlunteer work and I wasn't paid. I'm not sure where you could use the M.A. online, but there has to be somewhere. Good luck!
