So much I would want to change, but by changing one thing, you change other's as well. Have you seen "the butterfly effect" ? or "Frequency" ?
In both movies the future would change and change each time making things worse. Of course in the end it all works out, but thats the movies, in life thingsdont always work out the way we want or plan.
But, because that does not answer your question, let me say, I would change the way I was raised. My mother worked 2 jobs to support us, and my dad left when I was only 2. I think I would want her in my life rather then working so much, so I would want to make her have only one good paying job, working 8-5 so that she would have been home with us more often.

Sometime around 275 A.D. Emperor Aurelian of Rome sacked and destroyed the greatest repository of knowledge in the ancient world, The Great Library of Alexandria in Egypt. I wish I could go back and prevent this atrocity even though someone else later in history (Turks or Arabs) would probably just destroy it anyway. If the scrolls and books in this library could have been preserved through antiquity we may never have had the dark ages.

I would prefer the Native Americans to put up a fight with the europeans instead of being so friendly to the new commers. The American Indians were doing fine with family, spirituality and nature before those dudes showed up in 1492.
You do know what happened to the Indeginous People of this Contenent, right?

I know this sounds bad, but if we hadnt of had the holocast we wouldnt be as medically, technologically advanced as we are today.
If I could change one thing in the world it would be slavery, and the attitudes of westerners entering natives lands.
Imagine where the world would be today if the spanish hadnt of killed the american natives. Or the Australians to the aborigonals, and ofcourse the worst of all the Americans taking the africans into slavery.

That hate had not been created so that countries would trust and be loyal to one another instead terrorist attacking or wars starting.
I would also like for us to better understand our history and learn from past mistakes.

Excellent question, and one that requires one to be thoughtful (which I'm not particularly so at the moment), I'll just give one obvious fairly recent necessary change --- preventing Hitler from coming to power.
