of course, there's plenty you can do about it. go to the library and get acquainted with the self-help section on depression. when you have access to school, get to know your school counselor or psychologist. ask them for resources. join depression support groups online.

Explain to your mother that you feel you need someone to talk to other than a friend or family. Most insurance companies now a days have provisions for family counselling. Another good alternative is to speak with your minister, school counselor or other person who will have some influence with your mother. Many people look at therapy as a negative thing and you need to accept that. Don't blame them for their point of view, but do what you need to get the help you deserve. I commend you for the self realization that you may need help, but honestly most depressed people seek help for quite some time. Coming from a person that once didn't believe in depression and now cannot survive even a day or two without my paxil, depression is real! Even if it is a society driven illness.

Hi Kayle
Read up some self-help and material on the Internet about depression and how to control it.
Don't fret over your mom not undrstanding it - it doesn't help your depression, does it? Instead be sensible and try to help yourself as best as you can. Also make sure to have a network of good friends, who you can always open up to or shut down (depending upon your mood), without any inhibitions, - that really helps!

Wish you all the best! Take care.

Tell your minister and ask him to talk to Mom. Tell your father or any relative and ask s/he to talk to mom. Also you can call a depression hot-line in the phone book and see if they can get you in touch with someone locally that can help.

Well since your talking about your mom im guessing your still in school so if your problem persists you could talk to your counselor or a teacher about your problem.
