Foucault's Pendulum -- Umberto Eco (roller coaster ride through Templars, santereia, and Le Comte Saint Germaine)

Sophie's World... forget the author (History of philosophy as contemporary birthday mystery)

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket (Dark and very literate... also incredibly funny)

The Day After Tomorrow -- Alan Folsom (thriller but a pretty good read)

Can't abide the higgins clark ... or steel

I HATE Danielle Steele, my special ed. jr. high kids write better then she does... You should read "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini, I couldn't put it down. Mary Higgins Clark is OK, but just ok. I love Dean Koonze and James Patterson books for adventure and Barbara Kingsolver for just great storytelling and writing. "The Poisonwood Bible" is one of her best.

Robert A. Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land. It's Sci-Fi, and it's awesome.
